Straight from Cambodia, we went to the lovely land of Chiang Mai!
Chiang Mai is a city in the northern part of Thailand. It is near the mountains so it is quite different from the famous beach destinations of Thailand. It has preserved some parts of its walls which used to protect the ancient city. Today, Chiang Mai boasts of many temples, amazing cafes and shops sprawled all over the city.
There is a warm and homey vibe as we walked around. We had a pretty easy list of things to do, so my friends preferred a relaxing city walk, some temple visit and spent a day at the elephant sanctuary. Good food can be found everywhere without a hefty price tag. Oh, not to mention the very relaxing authentic Thai massage.
First order of business, we went around to see temples. The biggest one that we saw was Wat Chedi Luang.
The papers hung are done by people who wish to dedicate their prayers to their loved ones. It has symbols of the zodiac signs on it . All you have to do is write the name of the person beside their corresponding sign.
This structure is simply majestic.
Another temple is the Wat Phan Tao. Unlike the others, majority of this temple is made out of wood. It is one of the oldest temples in Chiang Mai. A beautiful aged structure that has stood since the 14th century.
One afternoon, we went to see the cute and fun - loving elephants at the sanctuary. It took about 1.5 hours to get there. We were all excited to see them however, the first time I heard the trumpet of the elephant, I somehow froze. Good thing the staff told us it was the sound of joy because they knew they will be fed and bathed by the visitors. We were given instructions on what to do when feeding. We also had to wear the colorful tops which have big pockets for the bananas we will be feeding them. Once you run out of bananas, raise both arms up and they will turn away.
Our short trip there was relaxing and even more memorable because of the elephants. Here is a video about it and I hope you enjoy watching it. Til next time!
